We’re proud to announce that we are now a certified California Air Resources Board (CARB) Clean Truck Check Inspection Station. This means we are officially authorized to conduct emissions compliance inspections under California’s new Clean Truck Check program—an important initiative aimed at protecting air quality and public health across the state.

What Is the Clean Truck Check Program?

Formerly known as the Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) Program, California’s Clean Truck Check is designed to ensure that diesel and alternative fuel trucks and buses operate at peak emissions efficiency throughout the life of the vehicle. As heavy-duty vehicles contribute significantly to nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) pollution, this program is a major step toward meeting California’s ambitious air quality goals.

The Clean Truck Check program is essentially a heavy-duty version of California’s Smog Check Program, which applies to light-duty vehicles—but with added flexibility.  Unlike traditional programs that require travel to a central testing site, the Clean Truck Check program allows required testing and emissions inspections to be performed remotely—including out-of-state.

We make it even more convenient by offering inspections at any one of our service shop locations, or we can bring testing equipment directly to your location to complete the inspection wherever you are.  All results are submitted electronically to CARB, keeping you compliant with minimal disruption!

Who Must Comply?

The Clean Truck Check applies to a wide range of vehicles, including:

  • Diesel and alternative fuel trucks and buses with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 14,000 pounds
  • California-registered motorhomes
  • Agricultural vehicles
  • Out-of-state and out-of-country vehicles operating in California

What’s Required?

Truck owners must first complete specific prerequisites before any emissions testing can take place. Prior to testing, the vehicle owner is required to register their vehicle with the State of California and fulfill the necessary steps to register with CARB.

This process ensures that the vehicle is properly documented in CARB's system, allowing for tracking and compliance verification under the state’s emissions reduction programs. Failure to complete this registration may result in delays or inability to proceed with required emissions testing.

Once registered, vehicle owners and operators must:

  • Regularly test emissions control systems to ensure they are functioning properly
  • Submit test data to CARB via a designated reporting platform
  • Pay an annual compliance fee of $30 per vehicle
Testing Frequency

CARB has set different testing frequencies depending on the type of emissions equipment installed:
  • OBD-equipped vehicles (On-Board Diagnostics):
    • Tested twice per year initially
    • Increases to four times per year after three years

  • Non-OBD equipped vehicles:
    • Tested twice per year
  • Agricultural vehicles and California motorhomes:
    • Tested once per year This phased approach allows owners time to adapt to the new requirements while ensuring ongoing oversight of emissions systems.

Why This Matters

California continues to lead the nation in environmental regulations aimed at reducing vehicle emissions. The Clean Truck Check program is critical for improving air quality in communities that are disproportionately impacted by truck traffic—especially near ports, freight corridors, and industrial zones. By verifying that trucks meet emissions standards year-round, the program helps reduce smog-forming pollutants and protect public health.

As a certified CARB Inspection Station, we play a vital role in this effort. Our team is trained, equipped, and ready to assist vehicle owners and fleet managers in staying compliant with Clean Truck Check regulations.
